Just as toxins are dangerous for the environment, neither are they healthy for the human body. And Calgary holistic practitioner Janet Rowe says we need to detoxify for health. Detoxification, particularly at this time of the year after the excesses of the holiday season, is helpful in moving out accumulated toxins, abnormal yeasts, bacteria and parasites that could be causing chronic discomfort.
Detoxifying helps the body re-program itself. Through the use of tools such as photo comparative blood analysis or iridology, Rowe is often able to pinpoint the root of a problem that has baffled the patient.
"A lot of people phone up and say they'd like to talk about their health" says Rowe, the proprietor of Health and Natural Lifestyles. "Often they tell me they've been to a doctor and the doctor is unable to find anything wrong. My clients are usually in tune with their body, and they know when there's something wrong" After discussing major symptoms and asking about diet, water intake and bowel movement patterns, Rowe will often use blood analysis to help determine nutrient deficiencies. She also studies whether toxins are present in the body and where they might be located. Rowe also says this process has helped her find cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome in some patients. "People will say they ache all over, or they are having a hard time getting out of bed", Rowe says. "Often they might be depressed because they're not feeling well, and no one can tell them what's wrong with them. Blood analysis is one of the major ways we can detect what's causing the problem. Iridology (the science of looking at the iris of the eye) can also help me locate a problem within the body. The eyes are like a clock; every two or three minutes, you can see a different part of the body".
Once a problem has been identified, a protocol of action is then planned that utilizes detoxifying tools such as herbs, vitamins or homeopathy. Rowe also uses Rife treatments - sometimes in combination with essential oils - to promote well-being. The Rife machine is named after Dr. Royal Raymond Rife, a scientist who discovered that certain resonating frequencies are able to modify the energy patterns of pathogens.
"Energy Wellness (maker of Rowe's Rife machine) frequencies are designed to balance patterns in our energy pathways that are believed to trigger normal cell function and regeneration in the body," Rowe says. "The frequencies are used to stimulate detoxification, nerve and tissue regeneration, and life extension." Rife encourages the body to dispose of toxins. There are other methods of cleansing, and Rowe suggests a lengthy cleansing regimen, one that will often last for 25 days.
"A cleansing concoction works through the entire digestive tract, picking up and then discharging the toxins," Rowe says. "About 90 per cent of all diseases start in the digestive tract, so we attempt to kill off the parasites and eliminate them through cleansing." Althea Wallace just completed a series of Rife treatments to help cleanse her body. She says she suffered a variety of ailments, including chronic fatigue, virus and bacteria in the blood, parasites and a very stressed immune system. "The Rife treatments, combined with essential oils, greatly accelerated the benefits of the homeopathic remedies I'd been taking for the past year", Wallace says. "I'm delighted with the improvement in my overall health. A medical doctor friend said to me recently Whatever you 're doing, it's working. Keep it up."
Rowe adds that the use of essential oils in conjunction with the Rife treatments increases the effectiveness of the routine by almost 70 per cent. And while a cleanse removes bacteria and unhealthy toxins from the intestines, the good bacteria that's essential for proper digestive processes is reintroduced through acidophilus. Rowe says there's an increased interest in natural medicine; "More and more people are taking their health into their own hands, and searching for answers when the medical searching for answers when the medical profession can't seem to help."
